NERVE MEDIA

2018-2020

Outside of my course responsibilities, I am a radio news editor for Bournemouth University's student media platform, Nerve. I oversee two newsreaders, helping them write a bulletin for the top of the hour, and then ensure the broadcast runs smoothly by controlling playout using the Myriad system. I also have a bulletin I produce on my own where I am required to fulfil both roles.

As well as my involvement in Nerve radio, I contribute occasional articles to the Nerve Magazine and their online platform, Nerve Now.

In my second year of study, I was co-host of a weekly radio show Saturday evenings. We created a playlist each week centred around a different theme and discuss relevant topics and the stories behind the different songs.

BUZZ NEWS

2017-2020

The platform for journalism at Bournemouth University is where the work I produce for assignments is hosted. During news days when I work as part of the online team, any articles and multimedia content I produce is here. It's a brilliant resource that has taught me to write engaging content, hone my SEO skills, and also allowed me to get a real feel for local news and what matters to people in Dorset.

WORK EXPERIENCE

SKY NEWS

June 2019

I undertook a week’s placement at Sky News in Osterley and Millbank. During this time, I gained invaluable insight into a 24-hour working newsroom, working with different teams, from day to night time output, sitting in on edits with correspondents, lending my voice to voiceovers, arranging interviews, as well as planning and social media, where I contributed an article on cyber flashing. I spent a day in the Westminster studios, interviewing ‘Our Future, Our Choice’ campaigners, and shadowing the team as they interviewed MPs and political commentators. The social media team gave me full creative control over an article for their Snapchat channel, and I chose to write about Cyber Flashing. My research into the issue then informed my idea for my final year project and I got to see my work posted on a platform with a reach of hundreds of thousands.

ITV WEST COUNTRY

December 2019

I was fortunate to spend a week with the team at ITV West Country. Their regional news output is of an incredibly high standard and it was very inspiring to see as someone who has worked in regional news while being at University. I was given articles to write for their digital platforms, found interviewees and conducted research for upcoming news items they wanted to produce. I was also sent on lives with reporters and was allowed to 'direct' the pre-recorded weather segments with reporters in other regional studios.

ROYAL BERKSHIRE HOSPITAL

July 2019-Present

Working alongside the communications team at my local hospital, I have produced two films to promote different campaigns - South Reading Cancer Champions and the Physician Associate programme. I was able to film and edit all of the footage by myself, and then respond to any changes and alterations the different teams wished to see. See my portfolio for the film I produced for the 'Cancer Champions'.

TESCO MAGAZINE

July 2019

I spent two weeks with the Tesco magazine team at Cedar communications, learning how issues of their monthly magazine are planned, designed, written and put together. I put
several of my learned skills to good use, helping with many elements of the production process. Researching, writing and proofing copy, planning products for photoshoots, as
well as helping with inspiration for the Christmas issue of the magazine and advertorials.

CAROUSEL CLOTHING DRESS AGENCY

2015-Present

I set up and now maintain the company’s social media, I have experience of liaising with customers – taking items in for sale, pricing and helping sell items, working on the till and using credit card machine, helping with window displays and shop layout.

I have worked as part of the team, assisting on an ad-hoc basis, helping prepare publicity material – taking pictures for flyers and leaflets and drafting adverts for local media.
